Extended coverage means users with a laptop or hybrid mobile phone (GSM and WiFi) can connect to broadband internet and check their email at any time, while waiting for a commuter train at Issy-Val-de-Seine station for example.
To mark the opening of the network, Orange is offering 50 hours’ free connection from its hotspots for three months with all passes bought from 7 December 2007. And Neuf Cegetel customers get unlimited access to the WiFi network for the first three months. Following the launch phase, Neuf Cegetel will be offering service in the form of temporary sessions priced from €1.50 for one hour, payable very conveniently by SMS.
The websites of the Issy-les-Moulineaux Town Council will remain accessible free of charge on a permanent basis.
The Issy-les-Moulineaux initiative further broadens the Neuf WiFi community, which totals 500,000 Neuf WiFi hotspots in France, plus 200,000 FON hotspots abroad. Neuf broadband customers have free unlimited access to the Neuf WiFi network at Issy-les-Moulineaux, as well as to all access points in the Neuf WiFi community.
The Neuf WiFi network at Issy-les-Moulineaux is based on a fibre optic infrastructure connected to each access point, guaranteeing high datarates for internet access with optimum connection quality (for faster browsing and document downloads, smooth video playing, etc.). Neuf Cegetel also worked hard on ensuring its WiFi terminals would not be a blot on the urban landscape: they are fitted inside existing lampposts.
